Ditch sporadic funding and unleash financial muscle for local energy transition
Sporadic funding is stifling net zero ambitions at the local level and should be replaced with a systematic approach to planning, funding, and powers, according to a new report by Energy Systems Catapult. The report by our Energy Revolution Integration Service recommends leveraging public funding, with the help of the UK Infrastructure Bank, to attract private sector investment and unlock the economic potential of the local energy transition.

Energy Digitalisation Taskforce launches
A new Energy Digitalisation Taskforce (EDiT) is being launched today by the Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy, in partnership with Ofgem and Innovate UK, to continue the Government’s focus on modernising the energy system to unlock flexibility and drive clean growth towards net zero emissions by 2050. This Taskforce, like its predecessor the Energy Data Taskforce, is run by Energy Systems Catapult and chaired by Laura Sandys.

World-first whole energy systems accelerator takes a step closer to powering net zero ambitions
A world-first energy innovation ecosystem, the Whole Energy Systems Accelerator (WESA), is a step closer following a collaboration agreement between the Living Lab at Energy Systems Catapult and PNDC. WESA will for the first time enable the interactions between activity in homes, energy networks, and market & policy frameworks to be tested concurrently across many different future energy scenarios.

Six Steps to Zero Carbon Buildings – Step 3: Make energy networks invest for Net Zero by adapting the RIIO2 framework
Energy Systems Catapult is setting out the recommended steps ‘Towards an enduring policy framework to decarbonise buildings’ over the next two decades. Energy Systems Catapult is calling for the creation of an economy-wide ‘Carbon Regulator’ to oversee monitoring, reporting, and verification of greenhouse gas emissions reduction and removal across the economy. Electricity market reform: Government must stop the drift to central planning and let innovators drive net zero, says new report
Energy Systems Catapult calls for a “big bang” moment for the energy sector akin to finance in the 80s and telecoms in the 90s – incentivising innovators to create new low carbon products and services that people want, and decarbonising the grid by 2035.
